This relatively thin little piece of rubber is vital to the performance and health of your transmission. It sits between the transmission pan and the transmission housing, and it is there to prevent transmission fluid leaks from the transmission pan.
On the newer design engines the intake manifold incorporates the valley pan, the part that seals the top of the block and heads. If the tunnel ram intake does not have the casting that seals the block and heads to keep oil in and debris out, then yes you need one.
In an internal combustion engine, a head gasket provides the seal between the engine block and cylinder head(s). Its purpose is to seal the combustion gases within the cylinders and to avoid coolant or engine oil leaking into the cylinders. Leaks in the head gasket can cause poor engine running and/or overheating.
The oil cooler gasket is part of the oil coolant system and it’s designed to keep oil from leaking before it has a chance to perform its job in adequately lubricating the engine. Furthermore, it contains the oil properly so that the oil can be cooled and re-circulated through your engine at the optimal temperature.
