Extensive damage to the engine as a result of a blown head gasket is the most unfavorable kind of engine problem. A busted head gasket that is ignored may require repair of the engine block, cylinder heads, or a complete engine replacement.
The oil pan gasket itself seals the oil pan to the bottom of the engine block and prevents oil from leaking as it moves from the pan to the engine and back. Because oil is constantly flowing, no vehicle is impervious to oil leaks, though. Often oil leaks stem from the oil pan or from a worn oil pan gasket.
A valve cover gasket is an engine component designed to protect cylinder head hardware from the elements and prevent oil from escaping the engine. Typically, the gasket is made of plastic, rubber or cork to create a tight seal between the engine cover and engine, acting as a two-way barrier.
The transfer case output seal prevents fluid from leaking out of the transfer case, keeping the internal metal components properly lubricated. If the seals leak, fluid escapes and cannot properly lubricate the internal components of the transfer case.
